Sportsperson Awards

Sportsperson criteria

Sportsmanship is an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its own sake, with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one’s competitors; a competitor who exemplifies the spirit of the game by his/her attitude, demeanor and acceptance of victory or defeat graciously.

  • Participation – nominees should be regular participants in NSTA competitions and tournaments and at all times display honesty, truthfulness and integrity, both on and off the court
  • Self-control and exemplary demeanor on the court.
  • The manner in which opponents are treated on the court.
  • Play to the best of their ability.

Tennis is a sport which to be played effectively, requires cooperation and mutual respect between two or four people. A sportsman treats his/her opponent as he would treat him/herself.  He/she is:

  • fair both on and off the court.
  • friendly and polite on and off the court.
  • respectful to all around – umpires, officials, spectators, their family and the opposition.
