The Sydney Tennis League provides an opportunity for players from Hot Shots level through to professional athletes to engage in regular tennis competition against their peers in Metro Sydney.
A tiered structure will ensure Associations, Clubs and Centres remain the central providers and drivers of competition tennis through five primary Metro regions – North, South, Central, South West and West.
The Sydney Tennis League provides a participation pathway that fosters competition tennis locally, encourages Club and Regional loyalty, whilst also providing the opportunity and direction to reach the highest level State-wide.
Players begin their journey with Hot Shots Leagues and aspire through the Sydney Tennis League pathway to play Super Leagues.
Super Leagues (Tier 1): Super League is open to any club with the aim of being the best team in Sydney. Clubs can enter by emailing stl@tennis.com.au or via Match Centre on the Tennis NSW website and must have completed a sign up form for the Sydney Tennis League. Six male and six female teams compete in a home and away league, played on Saturdays, from 12:00pm, run over a total of 12 weeks (10 rounds plus semi-final and final). Week 1 is 13th May, Super League is played over Terms 2 and 3 and dates exclude the June long weekend, school holidays and tournament weeks in August. Teams are comprised of a minimum of 4 players and maximum of 8 players on match day (squad maximum 10). Teams decide which players play singles and which players play doubles (players can play both). Total prize pool is $20,000. As part of league entry, each team will receive a logo (if required) and balls for the season. Lines-people and chair umpires are provided for the grand final. Entry fee is $750 per team. Multiple divisions will be conducted if needed.
Junior Super Leagues (14/U, 12/U and 10/U) players will be invited and drafted into one of the six junior teams: Southwestern Broncos, Northern Bears, Southern Dragons, Central Eagles, Western Bulls, Northern Wolves. The Season starts 11th February and is conducted for six weeks, concluding 18th March. The top 24 players from each age group will be selected by Tennis NSW to represent one of six teams in a six week competition. Matches will be played on Saturdays, from 12:00pm. Players will be selected based on national ranking, national rating and recent performances. Please note players will not be selected if they are not a member of a Tennis NSW affiliate. Players selected will compete in the Term 1 and 2 competition blocks with teams then re-selected for the Term 3 and Term 4 competition block. Term 2 Junior Super Leagues will be conducted for six weeks, excluding the June long weekend. Players will be notified by email of their selection. Those not selected will be placed on a reserve list. Teams will consist of four players competing in singles and doubles playing FAST4 in a timed format. All players are encouraged to compete in a STL Representative League, in addition to Junior Super League.
